The Pastel Society of SC is excited to announce award winning Pastelist Eve Miller, PSA, IAPS/MC, and fellow PSSC member, for our November General meeting and Workshop. Eve will present a demonstration of her unique approach to pastel painting for the general meeting followed by a class on using everything from a thumb tack to a squeegee to achieve new approaches and textures in your work. The Pastel Society of South Carolina invites you to join BETH WILLIAMS, a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, for a presentation of her recent flame series. Beth will share her IAPS award-winning painting and will discuss the advantages of working in a series and how that can lead to innovative breakthroughs in your work. She will conclude with a painting demonstration that will share the techniques she uses in painting fire and smoke.

The Pastel Society of South Carolina and the Chalk and Paper (Low Country Pastel Society) are pleased to welcome Art Historian, Kendall Martin, Professor of Art History, Humanities and Fine Arts at Catawba Valley Community College, who will give a presentation on the history of pastels on June 4, at 1:00 pm via Zoom.

Mark your calendars for a lively and entertaining lecture by Professor Kendall Martin. There will be a 45 minute lecture and a 15 minute Q & A. Members of both societies are invited and more information will follow. Non members who are interested in attending this event are invited to join Chalk and Paper (Low Country Pastel Society) or The Pastel Society of South Carolina. We are excited to have DAWN EMERSON present her “Dancing with pastels” demonstration on Saturday May 8, 2021 at 11 am via Zoom. This is a members only Zoom meeting so please encourage others to join and if necessary, renew your membership.

This amazing demonstration is about breaking new ground in pastel. Dawn will share with us her newest techniques by combining mono prints with water soluble oils and pastel. She is asking that we take the time to review her free demo by clicking on the link below prior to the demonstration. This will offer a wonderful opportunity to practice on your own and be better prepared to ask relevant questions.

Zoom meeting at 9:00 AM followed by a demonstration from Laura Pollak via ZOOM. What can I say, Laura has won 12 awards this year alone for her striking abstracts. If that doesn’t say something I don’t know what does! We are excited that she will demonstrate the principles and concept of abstraction, where to find inspiration, color techniques that WORK, the materials and mark making she uses to get a unique look. The exhibit is open 12-5 PM Monday through Saturday and 12-4 PM on Sunday the 8th.
Sales are conducted by the artist but work must remain through the 14th.
